CENTRE FOR HOLISTIC TEACHING AND LEARNING (CHTL)

The Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning is responsible for the promotion of the quality and scholarship of teaching and learning within the University and beyond. It works in close partnership with academic and professional colleagues both locally and internationally to foster student-centred, outcome-oriented and evidence-based teaching and learning at the University. It provides a wide range of staff development activities, collects evidence on students’ achievements of the graduate attributes to inform universities policies, develops and implements eLearning strategy and promotes innovative pedagogical and assessment methods (http://chtl.hkbu.edu.hk/main/).

Founded in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) seeks to be a leading research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world delivering academic excellence in a caring, creative and global culture. HKBU has a student population of around 12,000 and a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to the doctoral level. Currently the University has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1,000. Beyond Hong Kong, the University has a joint campus with Beijing Normal University running a unique liberal arts college in Zhuhai, the United International College, as well as research centres in other parts of China. Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of CHTL in strategising and implementing teaching and learning enhancement policies and strategies, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic objectives;
  • Drive the adoption of advanced educational technologies and innovative pedagogical practices throughout the university;
  • Design and implement strategic initiatives to enhance digital learning environments, including the exploration of metaverse, mixed-realities and artificial intelligence;
  • Partner with faculties[a1]  to promote and support the incorporation of technology in teaching and assessment;
  • Build and maintain external partnerships to further the Centre’s objectives; and
  • Assist the Director in administrative functions and staff management, and act as a delegate when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Preferably a doctoral degree with a strong background in educational technologies; 
  • Minimum of ten years’ teaching and managerial experience a higher education, with a focus on education technology and pedagogical innovation;
  • Proven experience with immersive technologies such as metaverse, VR, AR, AI and other smart technologies;
  • Demonstrated leadership and project managements skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team; and 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English; proficiency in Chinese an advantage.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years.  Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
