The University of Salford’s forward-thinking approach has powered progress for 125 years. Today, our university community encompasses over 26,000 students, 2,800 staff and 200,000 alumni from all around the world. Our unstoppable institution is bolstered by countless industry initiatives and innovative research programmes, building a thriving education community at the heart of a powerful and connected region. Our mission, to enrich lives, is built on four areas of focus: building prosperity and equity; enabling healthier living; improving the environment and sustainability; and developing cutting edge creative and innovative practice.

This is a unique moment in the history of Salford. Despite sector headwinds we are financially strong and continue to grow and invest in our people, digital and physical resources. There is exciting work to be done as we build on our academic strengths in keeping with our heritage as a 1960s Robbins era university and develop a contemporary education and research offer which is multi-disciplinary and uses collaborative advantage for the benefit of all our communities.

The University has varied research strengths in areas from acoustics to prosthetics and social policy, with the built environment and area studies performing well in the Research Excellence Framework. We research with purpose and generating impact in line with our areas of focus is central to our mission. Our next Pro Vice-Chancellor Research & Enterprise will develop and champion the vision and strategic direction of research and KE. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor you will lead the building our culture, capacity and outcomes of research. You will also be centrally involved in helping our many partnerships to flourish and through these to increase the volume, quality and multi-disciplinary nature of our output.

The role requires a senior leader with a distinguished academic profile, along with a track record of successful leadership. You will have experience of developing and leading a diverse, inclusive and applied research culture and the ability to develop innovative approaches to research and enterprise. As we reshape the University’s leadership, we are looking for leaders who are compassionate, committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and whose natural approach to delivery is one of shared endeavour.
