Position overview

ANU Counselling is seeking Psychologists or Mental Health Social Workers to join our team of Student Counsellors. The position primarily entails the provision of individual counselling to students. It requires professional expertise in psychological counselling practices and young adult mental health. An understanding of a broad range of personal, psychological, life stage, cultural and study related issues and the ability to adopt appropriate counselling frameworks is essential for this position.

The Student Counsellor position is under the broad direction of the Head of Clinical Services. The core work of a Student Counsellor is the provision of counselling services to students. You will also develop and present specialist group programs, workshops and seminars and participate in projects that contribute to the professional practice of the centre. In addition, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide advice and support to the ANU community on matters relating to students who are distressed and/or acutely unwell.

ANU Counselling provides clinical supervision and training to ANU Psychology Clinical Masters and PhD students. Unconditional registration as a Clinical Psychologist and Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisory training that allows for unconditional AHPRA approved supervision for higher degree psychology students is desirable, but not a requirement of this position.

ANU offers a collaborative work environment, where you are supported to develop your human resources skills while working alongside world leading academic and professional staff members. ANU Counselling is committed to supporting flexible work arrangements where
possible within the operational demands of the Student Counsellor service.
