Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is in the Department of Demography within the work group of the ERC Grant project Biological, Individual and Contextual Factors of Fertility Recovery (BIC.LATE) under the lead of Assoc.-Prof. Dr. Eva Beaujouan.

BIC.LATE studies the Biological, Individual and Contextual factors of later reproduction in low-fertility countries, and possible catch-up behaviours. The project uses data from social surveys, aggregate cohort fertility data in Europe, the English-speaking oversea countries and East Asia. We assess the importance of infertility and assisted reproduction for fertility recuperation, detect new inequalities that could raise in that context and explore differences in fertility levels across the low-fertility countries.

The Department of Demography at the University of Vienna is a part of the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital, which aspires to be a world leader in the advancement of demographic methods and their application to the analysis of population dynamics.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research & administration, which means:

  • You will be working on Work Packages 1 and 4 of the BIC.LATE project, related to the modelling of factors influencing late and delayed fertility
  • You will present results of the project at International Conferences and publish them in top-ranked journals in the discipline
  • You will be part of the BIC.LATE Team through collaboration in research and international collaboration
  • You will be involved in research administration, e.g. preparation of meetings, workshops, conferences, dissemination of project results, ...

This is part of your profile:

  • You have a Doctoral degree in Demography or Applied Statistics, but other specializations in related disciplines will also be considered
  • You have excellent command of statistical tools and modelling such as Simulation, Generalized Linear Models, ...
  • You have excellent knowledge of demographic methods
  • You have excellent programming skills in STATA and/or SPSS and/or R
  • Experience in the field of fertility is not required
  • You have a track-record of publications aligned with the career stage in renowned, subject-relevant, peer-reviewed journals
  • You have a high level of written and oral expression in English
  • You have the ability to work in a team and social competence
  • You have a love for research
  • You can work autonomous
  • Ideally, You have experience abroad
