This is a unique opportunity to join our Surrey Innovation District team and manage the Knowledge Exchange activities of the Games and Innovation Nexus (GAIN) project, which is the £1.5 million Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund (CCF) awarded to the University of Surrey, in partnership with the University of Warwick and University for the Creative Arts. It aims to design planned interventions designed to create customised knowledge transfer and innovation infrastructure, systems and processes that stimulate our existing innovation ecosystems in ways which are compatible with, and attractive to, the UK Games and Creative Technology industry.

The GAIN programme activities are part of a wider suite of programmes that the University of Surrey delivers to support commercialisation, industry partnerships and knowledge exchange. It supports the Gaming and Createch industry, which is an important part of the local innovation ecosystem and provides an important facilitation opportunity to link our Innovation activities to the Warwick Innovation District gaming cluster, supporting businesses in both regions to access university research collaborations, Createch facilities and student / graduate skills.  

The role

  • This is a full time, fixed term role, completing in November 2025.
  • Foster relationships between the University of Surrey, the University for the Creative Arts, and the University of Warwick, as well as with industry partners in the UK Games and Creative Technology sector to promote effective knowledge transfer. 
  • Develop and nurture key strategic partnerships and engage with them to nurture relations leading to strategic projects. This includes industry partners and a network of university colleagues with an interest in Games development, AI, Cyber Security, Media and Music, and Creative Writing.
  • Organise and run workshops, seminars, and networking events that promote collaboration and stimulate innovation within the UK Games and Creative Technology ecosystem. 
  • A key part of the role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to facilitate the setup of Surrey Games Innovation Zone, ensuring it meets the needs of internal and external stakeholders, and then manage the day-to-day operations of the Games Innovation Zone, ensuring it is set up and fit for purpose for the stakeholder group using it.  This includes planning, operating, securing resources, and monitoring the progress of relevant commercialisation activities in the Zone.
  • The role holder will report to the GAIN Programme Manager and work alongside the KE Managers at University for the Creative Arts and University of Warwick.

About you To be successful in this role you will need to evidence the following;

  • Experience of Knowledge Transfer in Higher Education sector including an understanding of how to facilitate academic/industry collaborations.
  • Experience of engaging with a range of public and private stakeholders. 
  • Experience of working in the relevant industry is desirable (e.g. games, media and music, AI, blockchain and Metaverse)
  • Experience of delivery and credibility within an industry-university interface role, including networking capabilities and communication skills used to facilitate collaboration to positive outcome.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work flexibly and efficiently.  You will be confident in a client/customer facing support role, able to influence and problem solve to ensure effective delivery of the programme KPIs.
