The research group Scientific Computing, led by Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Siegfried Benkner, focuses on research in programming paradigms, languages, compilers and software infrastructures for scientific computing to support users in the process of solving increasingly complex compute- and data-intensive problems in science and engineering on high-end parallel and distributed computing platforms.
The selected candidate will get involved in a new research endeavor led by Dr. Atakan Aral toward processing streaming data from monitoring systems of critical infrastructures (e.g., facilities for water supply and electricity generation). Instrumentation and control systems are widely used in critical infrastructure to collect data through sensors from various nodes, make decisions, and ensure smooth operation through remote and/or autonomous control of these infrastructures. Real-time computation in this scenario poses significant challenges ranging from communication efficiency to security.
The selected candidate will play an integral part in the group's core functions, including academic administration, teaching endeavors, and cutting-edge research activities. This position is designed to serve as a robust foundation for your future career, equipping you with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in both academic and industry-oriented professional arenas.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- Participation in research, teaching, and administration
- Participation in a new interdisciplinary EU project on data-driven solutions for the resilient operation of water and electricity infrastructures
- Contributions to publications/academic articles/presentations
- Completion of a doctoral dissertation
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and project management
This is part of your personality:
Candidates must have a Master´s degree or equivalent by the expected start date. The degree should be related to the position, e.g., in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, or informatics. Background or strong interest in at least one of the following topics is desired.

Our working language is English, and there is no need to learn German, although we will encourage and support any German-learning ambitions.

Fair salary: The basic gross salary of EUR 2.457,99 (30h, 14x p.a.) increases if we can credit professional experience. The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
