The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is looking for a General Practitioner with a passion for education to join our Community Education team (KUMEC) at King’s College London to cover a secondment for three years, with potential for extension for a further two years.
The post holder will focus on support, development and delivery of two programmes:
- MBBS Stage 3 General Practice block: this eight-week placement is delivered for ~400 final year students each year through our network of teaching practice as well as independent placements across the UK. This block has some of the highest student evaluations across the medicine programme. The post holder will work with closely with the Block Lead, their Deputy and Professional Service team. This post will focus on support of tutors and students whilst on placement and contribution to induction, seminar and simulation programmes.
- BSc in Primary Care: We are one of only three universities to offer this programme to intercalating medical students in the UK. Having begun in 2018, the programme is now well established with a cohort of ~20 full-time students each year with significant numbers of external applications from other medical schools. The programme includes a weekly clinical placement alongside modules on Primary Care; Leadership, Management & Quality; Teaching in Primary Care; Health Inequality; Research Methods; and includes a Research Project for all students. The post holder will work closely with the Programme Director and may lead one or more modules on the programme.
We co-ordinate, support and promote medical education in community contexts, working with a network of around 600 community tutors. We aim to develop caring, professional doctors, who can reflect on and direct their own lifelong learning, applying evidence-based guidelines to help patients make informed decisions.
The KUMEC team is located on the Guy’s Campus in Addison House. Many of the academic team also have NHS clinical and other medical school commitments. The team leads on the development and delivery of undergraduate medical education in primary care to our 2,400 King’s medical students.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 3 years in the first instance.
This is a part-time post – 40% full time equivalent (2 days a week/ 4 sessions/16 hours).
As an active GP and educator, with the knowledge, skills and experience that this profession brings, the post holder will contribute to student learning and our team:
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate Stage 3 & BSc Programmes.
- Support tutors and students with challenges they experience related to clinical placements.
- If relevant, act as a module lead and contribute to wider delivery and leadership of the KUMEC programme.
- Contribute to assessment and marking as required on MBBS & BSc programmes.
- Contribute to the wider activities of Community Teaching at King’s College London
- Contribute to the MBBS programme as a Personal Tutor, OSCE examiner or written assessor.
As well as:
- Contributing to primary care educational innovation, research and development.
- Contributing to GKT Medical School activities as agreed with line manager and Dean of Medical Education
- Taking part in KUMEC, Centre for Education, and KCL activities as appropriate

Skills, knowledge, and experience
- Up-to-date GMC licence to practice medicine
- A working knowledge of the NHS and primary care delivery
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to deliver outstanding teaching
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong IT skills: including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, online teaching delivery systems
- An understanding of the pressures facing Primary Care in the UK
- Experience of the application of adult education methods in a higher education setting, preferably with healthcare professionals

- A qualification in education (for example Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma/Masters in Medical Education or equivalent)
- Experience of curriculum development and assessment
- Experience of course evaluation and quality assurance
- Experience in student support and tutor development
