The University of Southampton is a research-intensive University, with annual research income in excess of £120 million. The Research Information and Systems team, based in Research and Innovation Services, provides support for key systems utilised across the University as well as delivery of key data analytics and insight on the University’s research and enterprise activities and key performance indicators.

About the role

The postholder will provide management and oversight for key systems such as Worktribe (pre/post award), Pure (current research information system), Minuet (intellectual property) and ERGOII (research ethics). This includes overseeing strategy and development of our systems, customer support, supplier management and working with other Professional Services team leads as required.

In addition, the postholder will also manage the team’s provision of data analytics, including development of new dashboards (PowerBI), ad-hoc reports to key stakeholders, delivery of routine surveys (e.g. HEBCIS) and analyses of key areas of performance for the University and the wider HEI sector.

The Research Information and Systems Manager will play a key role in the University’s preparations for future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises. By leveraging their knowledge and responsibilities for relevant systems and information they will work as part of a core team of experts, liaising with key stakeholders and leadership within Faculties, other Professional Services departments and the Vice President Research and Enterprise to ensure an optimised process and submission.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic, graduate qualified (or equivalent) individual with a proven track record in the following:

  • Management of systems such as Worktribe or Pure (or their equivalents).
  • Expertise in data analytics and experience of delivering key data-driven insights to inform decision making.
  • A deep understanding, and substantial experience, of research assessment programme preparation and submission, such as REF/RAE.
  • Team/line management and the development of productive working relationships both within and external to the organisation.

In return, you will benefit from working alongside a friendly and vibrant team, a healthy work/life balance with flexible working arrangements and a generous holiday allowance (30+ days) and pension.

Our vision and mission at the University of Southampton is to have a community where staff and students feel welcome, supported and valued.  The Research & Innovation Services Department is proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, with the belief that excellence will be achieved through recognising the value of every individual.
