About the opportunity

A new and exciting opportunity is available for a Research Fellow to provide project management advice and operational support to the Chief Investigator, coordinating the implementation and delivery of activities and tasks to meet established milestones and deliverables for Project HIRAID Aged Care. The incumbent will join a team that is addressing some of the most pressing health challenges using transformative behaviour change research approaches.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline or area of expertise
  • coordinate the project and research data collection and provide administrative services and support for the work area for data collection.
  • coordinate and provide project support for the work area.
  • coordinate and provide administrative services and support for ethics submissions and other reporting under the guidance of the Chief Investigator for the work area.
  • coordinate and provides support for the development of research publications for the work area.
  • coordinate and provide project financial management and administrative support to the Chief Investigator for the work area.
  • undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities.

The Research Fellow will be located principally within Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases at the University's Western Sydney Local Health District brand new K-Block Precinct at Westmead Hospital, and at the University's Camperdown Campus from time-to-time. The incumbent will be required to travel to trial site across Western Sydney Local Health District and other NSW areas.

About you

  • hold tertiary qualifications in psychology or behavioural sciences and a doctoral qualification.
  • have experience in a research-intensive environment or interest in teaching and working in relevant fields in academia or clinical practice.
  • have experience in carrying out literary searches and preparing literary reviews for further analysis.
  • have extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions and grant applications.
  • be able to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work.
  • have advanced skills data analysis, using statistical analysis tools, and reporting on research findings.
  • have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.
  • have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritize workload during busy periods.
  • have a working understanding of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation, including Safe Laboratory Practices, as applicable to the work environment.

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
