The “Joint Research Network Elfriede Jelinek” is a cooperation between the University of Vienna and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and is to promote the cooperative and interdisciplinary research on Elfriede Jelinek’s work, its contexts and reception. The Joint Research Network Elfriede Jelinek is based on the work of the Research Platform Elfriede Jelinek: Texts – Contexts – Reception, which was established at the University of Vienna from 2013 to 2019.

The purpose of these interinstitutional research activities is to access new, interdisciplinary, methodical approaches as well as to interlink science with art.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will have the opportunity to work at the central research center worldwide about Elfriede Jelinek consisting of an inspiring group of people dedicated to a manifold range of research and academic teaching.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Participation in research on topics of gender, politics and society in context of Elfriede Jelinek
  • Interest in transdisciplinary research
  • Contribution to publications / scientific articles / internet portals
  • Contribution to organisation of symposiums, workshops and events
  • PhD project about Elfriede Jelinek
  • The successful candidate is expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months
  • Responsibility for cooperation with local, national and international research institutions
  • Project application and external fundraising
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students

This is part of your personality:

  • Degree in German Philology (Magister or MA or UF German) with focus on Austrian literature
  • Profound knowledge of Elfriede Jelinek’s works, its contexts and reception
  • High ability to express oneself in speaking and writing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • IT user skills
  • Teamwork skills

Also desirable:

  • Research focus on Gender
  • Articles about Elfriede Jelinek
  • Experience in editing of publications
  • Teaching experience
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • Experience in the scientific organization
