Do you want to engage with a national peer-led consortium that aims to make the UK a centre for world-leading research? The University of Southampton is seeking an Open Research Coordinator & Administrator (ORCA) to join their team and support the mission of the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN; www.ukrn.org).
This post is for 0.7FTE with the opportunity to extend to 1FTE subject to grants and funding. Funding for 1 FTE until the end of July 2024 is secured.
Open Research refers to research practice which is suitably transparent, enabling others to contribute and collaborate, or for the research to be used, replicated/tested, and built upon with no unnecessary barriers.
As the UKRN ORCA, you will be responsible for collating training, evaluation and advocacy tools to embed Open Research practices within the wider University community as described in the duties below. You will work with other coordinators and project officers across the country to accelerate the uptake of Open Research practices and promote the benefits of Open Research through project work, training, promotional activities, and communication. You will engage with a wide range of service users, including researchers, educators, technical and professional staff, students, and civic communities. Your role will principally ensure that the University of Southampton's contribution to the UKRN's 5-year program is coordinated effectively – 'Growing and Embedding Open Research in Institutional Practice and Culture', concluding on August 31st, 2026.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and will have an interest in leading and reporting on research-related activities. You will join the Library’s Open Research & Publication Practice, Research Data, IP, and Bibliometrics teams in the capacity of UKRN ORCA. The key accountabilities are in the linked job description. As part of this, you will draw together evidence from investigations into engagement with Open Research by the University of Southampton community, and from that, you will aim to fill gaps and devise new strategies for delivery of training and resources. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a programme aimed at Growing and Embedding Open Research in Institutional Practice and Culture.
The University of Southampton is committed to promoting inclusion in the workplace, and we welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, career pathways, and disciplines. If you are passionate about Open Research and want to make a difference in the research community, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position. If you have any suggestions for how we can make the interview process more inclusive to meet your needs, please contact us and we will try to accommodate your suggestion in a way that is fair to all candidates.
