Research Associate (Cancer Science Institute)

Job Description

Research Associate position is available immediately in Prof Chng Wee Joo’s research group. The selected candidate will provide support to the Principal Investigator and the team in terms of research, laboratory and administrative needs

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Carry out assigned experiments
  • To organize, preserve and present the results of the experiment in a logical manner
  • Record all experiments and findings properly and systematically
  • Analyze and plan further experiments under guidance
  • Assist in supervising, training and guiding attachment/ undergraduate students whenever required


  • Plan and ensure the needs and requirements of the team in terms of consumables
  • Ensure that the lab is adequately stocked with clean glassware, minor equipment, chemicals etc
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of  equipment through regular safety checks and audits
  • Assemble reagents, chemicals and media that are required for experiments
  • Ensure that all standard operating procedures and safety regulations are adhered to

Administrative duties

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in tracking grants and other sources of funding
  • Procurement of necessary equipment, chemicals, reagents as required
  • Maintain a systematic and proper record of procurement and payment processing
  • Liaise with vendors and administrative officers for purchase requisition, goods delivery, and payment processing


Applicants should have:

  • Master's Degree in molecular biology, cancer biology, medicine, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related fields
  • Able to communicate in written and spoken English
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Design and interpret experiments
  • Work independently with minimum supervision

Preferred knowledge of candidates:

  • Background in flow cytometry, genomics and molecular biology
  • Basic principles and practices in the field of biology, physiology and/or chemistry
  • Methods of scientific research and relevant scientific theories
  • Principles, techniques and terminology used in the examination of clinical and animal samples
  • Principles, techniques and terminology used in cancer biology
  • IRB, OSHE & IACUC regulations
