About the Role
The position of Associate Professor contributes to leadership in teaching, research and service in the Department. The incumbent will undertake scholarly research activities, leading to publications in high quality finance journals, and in presenting his/her research at prominent international finance conferences. The incumbent will undertake high quality teaching in finance, have a strong commitment to student learning outcomes and have an ability and willingness to teach across a variety of subjects. The incumbent will also apply for competitive research grant funding leading to high quality publications and have the ability and willingness to engage with industry, government and the wider community. Leadership and service to the Department/Faculty/University commensurate with the position will also be undertaken.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research, which leads to scholarly publications in top tier and high quality finance journals
- Delivering high quality teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Providing leadership in research by mentoring junior colleagues in establishing their research portfolio
Who We Are Looking For
You should possess a substantial and internationally recognised research record with publications in top tier finance journals. Additionally, you will need substantial high-quality teaching experience at various academic levels, the ability to effectively supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students, and the capacity to provide leadership in both teaching and research. Moreover, the ability to attract competitive research funding is essential.
You will also have:
- A PhD in finance or financial economics
- A substantial and internationally recognised research record, as evidenced by publications in top tier and high quality finance journals
- Substantial high quality teaching experience, at the undergraduate, postgraduate and/or PhD levels
- The ability to effectively supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students

About the Department of Finance
The Department of Finance (http://fbe.unimelb.edu.au/finance) is one of four teaching and research departments within the Faculty of Business and Economics. It has over 40 full-time academic staff, five full-time professional staff and finance practitioners who serve as sessional teaching staff. In 2023, the Department had over 13,000 students across more than 60 subjects.
The Department’s research objective is to produce high-quality research, publishable in elite international journals. There is a strong emphasis within the Department on encouraging a positive research culture, promoting collaboration, and providing a supportive atmosphere. The Department is also interested in supporting the Faculty’s strategy of having a strong research focus on new and emerging fields.
