About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW) specialises in teaching and research in the fields of education and social work, which have long traditions at the University of Sydney. Our undergraduate and postgraduate education programs are some of the best in Australia.

The school is currently seeking a Research Associate - Sparking Imagination Education to join the team. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, assisting with studies, and contributing to the overall goals and objectives of a research project. As an academic Level A Research Associate, you would conduct research and/or scholarly activities under the limited supervision of senior academic staff, either independently or as part of a research team.

ARC Linkage Projects support academics to work with government and industry partners to tackle complex problems and fast-track solutions to benefit end users. In this project researchers from the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong and University of Queensland are collaborating with industry partners AIME and Social Ventures Australia.

About you

  • bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, as appropriate to the position
  • demonstrate the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • project management or collaboration experience and research background in education or related fields
  • prior experience in the implementation of similar research projects, including managing preparations for, and execution of, fieldwork, organising events, writing reports and contributing to other non-scholarly outputs and research papers
  • high-level communication, networking and organisational skills and maturity to build and maintain effective working relationships with preservice and in-service teacher educators, other research participants, CIs and research assistants
  • experience with literature reviews, qualitative methods (e.g., interviews) and data analysis using software tools
