TUD Dresden University of Technology, as a University of Excellence, is one of the leading and most dynamic research institutions in the country. Founded in 1828, today it is a globally oriented, regionally anchored top university as it focuses on the grand challenges of the 21st century. It develops innovative solutions for the world's most pressing issues. In research and academic programs, the university unites the natural and engineering sciences with the humanities, social sciences and medicine. This wide range of disciplines is a special feature, facilitating interdisciplinarity and transfer of science to society. As a modern employer, it offers attractive working conditions to all employees in teaching, research, technology and administration. The goal is to promote and develop their individual abilities while empowering everyone to reach their full potential. TUD embodies a university culture that is characterized by cosmopolitanism, mutual appreciation, thriving innovation and active participation. For TUD diversity is an essential feature and a quality criterion of an excellent university. Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

The DRESDEN-concept Genome Center at the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), one of four DFG-funded German Competence Centers for next generation sequencing (NGSCC), offers a position as

Research Associate in Bioinformatics (m/f/d)

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to 24 months. However, there is a strong intention to pursue continued employment. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz / WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.

The DcGC is hosted at the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), a central scientific unit of TUD Dresden University of Technology and combines the interdisciplinary institutes B CUBE, BIOTEC and CRTD. CMCB has close links to multiple schools and faculties at TU Dresden. The CMCB aims at creating synergies among intra- and extramural institutes in Dresden to provide an internationally oriented academic environment with cutting-edge research and innovative teaching programs at all levels.

The DcGC is one of four selected DFG NGS Competence Centers in Germany (https://ngs-kn.de). Its primary technological focus is on implementing novel methods for single-cell and spatial sequencing applications, as well as bulk short and long-read sequencing applications. Additionally, the DcGC, in collaboration with the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) at TU Dresden, holds a significant role as one of the six Data Hubs affiliated with the German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA). This affiliation contributes to the NFDI initiative, which aims to establish a national infrastructure for the secure storage, sharing, and analysis of extensive human sequencing data (https://www.ghga.de).

For TUD diversity is an essential feature and a quality criterion of an excellent university. Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

Tasks: Embedded in a team of experienced bioinformaticians at the DcGC, you will work closely with the research groups on the Dresden campus and support scientists with bioinformatics expertise. The position includes comprehensive project consulting, establishing and improving analysis workflows and performing bioinformatics analyses in direct collaboration with researchers on the campus. Particular focus is the development of single cell and spatial sequencing data analysis pipelines and the integrative analysis of multidimensional datasets.

This position offers the opportunity to become the academic leader of the existing bioinformatics team, helping to shape the scientific direction of the DcGC.

Requirements: Candidates must hold a university degree and - if applicable a PhD degree - in a scientific-technical subject (preferably bioinformatics, statistics or computer sciences) or a similarly suitable course of study; advanced knowledge in OMICs technologies and in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. In addition to performing analyses themselves, the candidate will also focus on project coordination and implementation of new developments of bioinformatics analysis pipelines. Therefore, next to extensive bioinformatics experience, project coordination skills are an advantage as well as advanced knowledge in Unix/Linux and scripting (e.g.R, Python, Perl, Shell, Snakemake, Singularity), and knowledge in statistics. In addition, strong communication skills, reliability, initiative, ability for teamwork in a multicultural environment and a high level of motivation are required. Due to the international composition of the institute and the visibility of the position towards the campus, excellent written and spoken English skills are also required.

What we offer: A position in a leading research institute of the Excellence University TU Dresden combined with a highly specialised working environment where you can implement your own ideas and work with an innovative interdisciplinary team, flexible working hours and the possibilityof accommodating your children through partnerships with childcare facilities close to the institute.

TUD strives to employ more women in academia and research. We therefore expressly encourage women to apply. The University is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service.
