The School of Business and Law, in partnership with the School of Medical and Health Sciences, funded through a grant from the WA Government, have established a Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS Centre). The funding supports three major initiatives that will be MARS Centre will be the vehicle for delivery: appointment of a Mining Work Health and Safety Professorial Chair, a MARS-themed program of research, and the development and delivery postgraduate and undergraduate programs in mining work health and safety.
As part of an exciting expansion plan, the School of Business and Law will move into the $853 million world-class facilities of the landmark ECU City Campus at Yagan Square in the Perth CBD in 2025. The Role
The Senior Communications Advisor will work closely with the Executive Dean, Quality, Accreditation and Engagement Manager and academic staff in the School of Business and Law to devise, develop and deliver on the schools marketing strategic objectives and priorities. The role will also liaise with University Brand and Marketing to ensure compliance with university brand guidelines and those of our external accreditation authorities.
The successful candidate will manage the communication and event portfolio of a small team and will be required to present at some events. The role will enhance the profile of the School’s website by developing in conjunction with the staff, attractive, concise and engaging content that includes the community and societal impact of the School’s activities.
The School continues to publish promotional materials and run events, however, as the role is currently vacant you will have the opportunity to bring your experience and fresh ideas to really put your stamp on this position.
We are looking for a brilliant writer, a confident communicator and someone who can translate complex topics for broad audiences, build on their networks and successfully operate in large and complex organisations.
You may already have experience managing staff or be an emerging leader and keen to gain experience in this area.
Key Criteria
The successful applicant will have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, with a preference for a postgraduate qualification, and extensive relevant experience.
- Demonstrated high level experience in conducting media relations and communications management, as well as coordinating and delivering events and projects in a large and complex organisation.
- Highly effective organisational skills, including setting objectives, planning, managing resources, monitoring progress, evaluating results and taking corrective action when and if required.
- High level oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write or contribute to complex media or School-based written reports. Interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop good relationships and networks both internally and externally.
- Ability to organise and present information, views and concepts in a concise, understandable and interesting format for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to create networks which foster a complementary mix of knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Holds self and others to account and is transparent and flexible in how organisational outcomes are achieved.
- Have a clear sense and appreciation for design and style in written material and documents.
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.

Benefits and Remuneration
This full-time, ongoing position attracts a salary of $93,378 to $104,628 p.a plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
