About us

Southern Cross University is a young, dynamic and rising institution of excellence committed to transforming tomorrow. Our new education model brings a deeper learning experience, improving individual student outcomes and quality of life.

Working at Southern Cross University combines a rare combination of being surrounded by ambitious students, amazing and dedicated colleagues and an environment of stunning natural beauty. We are a leader in our communities in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Coffs Harbour and the Gold Coast and pride ourselves in helping to shape a better tomorrow.

About the opportunities

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Business, Law and Arts is building a law discipline that is unique in Australia in its proximity to and engagement with the legal profession.  Recent recruitment within the discipline has been successful, with passionate and engaged academics creating opportunities and impact. To continue to build on this growth trajectory, the Faculty seeks two further senior academics at Professor / Associate Professor levels to join the team.

We believe that it is our purpose to educate and equip outstanding legal practitioners for practice. Therefore, we are looking outstanding individuals whose connections to practice run deep, and whose authority in their chosen area of expertise is unquestionable.

If you have a passion for the Law, for the translation of insights from practice into dynamic legal education and thought leadership, and the preparation of our next generation of practice leaders – this opportunity may well be for you.

About you

Applicants will possess a relevant postgraduate qualification, with an underpinning LLB or equivalent. The capacity to inspire students through practice informed teaching and an orientation to the use of authentic assessment is essential. In addition, you will have a track record of or a capacity to practice to a high standard, especially in journals likely to be of direct interest to the practice wing of the profession.

Professor and Associate Professor levels are marks of distinction.  Those who carry these titles are expected to exhibit leadership within the discipline of law and very strong credibility with the legal profession. As a Professor or Associate Professor, you will be expected to demonstrate unambiguous authoritativeness in your chosen domain of specialty.  You may have developed this through work in commercial practice, at the Bar or Bench, or through a more conventional academic journey.

You will have an inclination towards building a strong legacy for the University legal education programs and will use your experience and professional gravitas to build the University’s reputation within Australia’s legal profession.
