Context

ECU has a new five-year plan to position it as a university of the future. A key part of this plan is to increase the profile of ECU’s world-class research and define its distinct research reputation. 

Brand and Marketing works to enhance ECU's reputation and brand by managing key communication channels. This includes brand development and management, advertising, public relations, corporate events and digital marketing and web design. Within Brand and Marketing, the Corporate Relations Team is responsible for the University’s external profile, internal communications and providing strategic advice to internal clients, including the Executive Team.

The Role

The Communications Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Manager, Corporate Relations and the Senior Communications Adviser to develop and implement media strategies to engage a wide range of media outlets, locally, nationally and internationally.

We are looking for a confident communicator, a great writer and someone who can take complex issues and engage with a variety of audiences to get their message across. They must be able to successfully operate in large and complex organisations. Knowledge of the Higher Education sector would be an advantage, but not essential.

This role may require occasional work outside of standard office hours.

Key Criteria

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field with extensive experience OR equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation.
  • Experience working in a media liaison or communications role, preferably in a large organisation
  • The ability to deliver media communications to target audiences across a range of channels.
  • Planning and organising skills, including setting objectives, monitoring progress and evaluating results.
  • Influencing and networking skills.

You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, fixed term position attracts remuneration a of $85,551 - $92,301 per annum plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
