Description
Assistant Professor of Theater and Performance Studies
The Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a full-time tenure-line faculty position in Theater and Performance Studies with an emphasis on performance studies and media studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. As a scholarly discipline that uses performance as a theoretical lens and tool to study both theatrical and socio-political events, performance studies offers rich connections to traditional theater, to forms of civic engagement such as street protest and community organizing, to civic poetics and structures (memorials; civic architecture and design). Possible areas of emphasis include: media and film studies, emergent forms such as digital and virtual reality (VR), performance and design, and global performance histories. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one of the core courses for the major/minor, as well as one upper-division undergraduate topical seminar. The teaching load is 4 courses per year, with accompanying undergraduate advising, service on departmental committees, and service to the College. Applicants may also demonstrate qualifications to teach devising strategies, production, directing, design, or writing across media.
