Accounting at the University of Otago has a long history, and the Department includes some of the most outstanding teachers and researchers in the Business School and the University. We are AACSB, EQUIS, CA ANZ, CPA Aust. and ACCA accredited. Our Department is internationally-recognised for its scholarly contributions in the fields of: Accounting Education, Auditing, Capital Market Research, Corporate Governance, Financial Reporting, Carbon and Environmental Reporting, and Performance Measurement and Management. We have excellent archival databases including WRDS, Audit Analytics, 12 Bloomberg terminals, Capital IQ, CRSP/Compustat, DataStream, Orbis, OptionMetrics and WINDS. Current faculty have published in leading accounting journals such as AAAJ, Abacus, Accounting and Finance, AJPT, BAR, CAR, IJA, JBE, JBFA, as well as staff who serve as ABDC A and B editors and editorial board members.

We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations, and mātauraka Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. We especially value our relationship with Ngai Tahu, the mana whenua within their takiwā of Te Waipounamu, and the University's principal Treaty partner.

The Role - Te mahi

We are seeking to appoint a full-time, confirmation path Senior Lecturer in Accountancy. The successful applicant will be an expert in management accounting and capable of teaching across all our management accounting undergraduate papers and relevant masters papers.

This is a unique opportunity for an energetic, creative and committed individual to make a significant impression and contribution in their chosen discipline while being well supported by a collegial and dynamic Department and University.

Your skills and experience - Kāpūkeka me kāwheako

The successful candidate will have an excellent research and publication portfolio in management accounting, a strong commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervisions, as well as:

  • A PhD in accounting or equivalent.
  • A comprehensive research agenda aimed at internationally-rated accounting journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of high-quality teaching at a range of levels.
  • A collaborative and collegial approach to work.
  • Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tahu, who are mana whenua in the region.
  • Previous industrial experience and/or a professional accountancy qualification are desirable attributes, but not essential.

Salary range for this position is Senior Lecturer is $112,482 to $128,305 per annum.
