The School of Information and Physical Sciences (SIPS) are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Computing and Information Technology (CIT) to contribute to the School. The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of human-centred computing courses, programs, and research, with interdisciplinary research expertise highly desired [MA1]. The Discipline of CIT is committed to excellence in both research and teaching & learning with access to excellent facilities and strong collaboration with the School of Psychological Sciences.
The Discipline substantially contributes to the overall research inputs and outputs of the School and College and is focused on strategic initiatives to broaden industry connections in the region offering unique opportunities for collaboration with Defence, Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) and Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). The successful candidate will also be invited to join the i3 Lab offering industry linked research focusing on interactions that occur between humans, computers and data.
How will we inspire you?
The Lecturer in Computing and Information Technology (CIT) with a focus on Human-centred computing will develop and deliver high-quality teaching in key areas within the Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Software Engineering program/discipline areas. They will also build research productivity in human-centred computing and develop recognition for expertise in this critical domain.
This role will:
- Foster increased cooperation between the University and allied research affiliates.
- Attract competitive external grant funding, including industry-based research support.
- Establish and build an independent research program to attract undergraduate and higher degree students.
- Embrace new teaching pedagogies (included blended and active learning) with a view to enhancing student experience.
- Work cohesively within a team environment to strengthen current and future research priorities of the School.
- Participate in activities to maintain academic standards and administrative effectiveness within the School.
How will you inspire us?
The essential criteria for success include:
- Expertise: Completed a doctoral or masters qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or IT or a related area, with a focus on human-centred computing.
- High-Quality Research: Demonstrated record of publication or non-traditional research output in high-quality outlets including evidence of international and national research collaborations and/or partnerships.
- National Recognition: Demonstrated recent ability to achieve national recognition in their discipline and taking a chief investigator role (often in conjunction with more experienced researchers) in applications for external research funds.
- Supervision: Skills in active supervision of honours, masters and/or Higher Degree by Research postgraduate research projects.
- Quality Teaching: Demonstrate recent ability to achieve teaching quality as indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes for students that will improve or innovate in response to feedback.
- Curriculum Design: Demonstrate recent ability to contribute at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels, taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules and coordinating one or more courses, including collaboration in curriculum design and delivery where appropriate.
- Engagement: Ability to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities.

This position will be offered as a level B, full-time continuing role.
The remuneration range is from $103,221 to $122,576 plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading.
