Located on the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus, which is home to the largest concentration of agrifood research capability and expertise in the southern hemisphere, the Waite Research Institute (WRI) has a longstanding international reputation for delivering innovative research outcomes forAustralian and global agriculture, food and wine industries. Our researchers excel on the world stage by bringing together their diverse expertise in plant sciences, viticulture, soils, engineering, food technology, agribusiness and social sciences. The co-location of the Adelaide node of the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) and key industry partners and other research organisations on the Waite campus including the South Australia Research and Development Institute (SARDI), CSIRO and the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) adds to the critical mass needed to perform transformational research.

Reporting to the Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Excellence (PVCRE) in the Division of Research & Innovation, the next WRI Director will lead and implement the strategic direction and long-term vision for the University to expand its world-class research and research training programs in dryland agriculture, value-added agrifoods, biosecurity, and agribusiness. The appointee will be an inclusive leader able to influence across the University’s Faculties and Schools to create and augment collaborative research opportunities within the WRI’s remit. They will also be an outstanding advocate in agricultural innovation who is able to advance the WRI’sreputation and partnerships both nationally and beyond, particularly through representation on scientific, professional, and industry bodies as well as public engagement.
