Do you have proven experience of driving change and delivery in a breadth of activities across a variety of areas of a university? Are you looking for a challenging role in an environment that is open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join the University of East London as Head of Statutory Returns.

There are big changes happening at the University of East London. 125 years old and committed to driving diversity in the 5.0 talent pipeline, we work in partnership to promote talent wherever it is found and strive to create a balanced, inclusive and green future. Our newly-formed Strategic Development and Delivery directorate is set to play a big part in that future. Bringing colleagues together from across the University into one function to form service areas that include Data, Insights & Decision Support; Strategy & Performance; Portfolio & Benefits; and Change & Improvement, the aim is to combine our specialist expertise and sector knowledge to help deliver our strategy ‘Vision 2028’ and beyond.

A great opportunity to inspire and bring influence, both to the role and wider university, as Head of Statutory Returns you will have the voice and the remit to make a real mark across the University in the years ahead. Indeed, you could soon be playing a huge role at the heart of a supportive and dynamic team that’s committed to helping us achieve our ambitious goals. This is not a typical Statutory Returns role, as it sits as part of a new Data Office, tasked with making the best use of our data to answer questions.

Among your many challenges will be the need to build and develop a team of Statutory Returns officers, as well as engaging and supporting a Community of Practice across the University. Evolving our understanding on managing the landscape of returns to support our size & shape ambitions and aiding the Chief Data Officer in championing and developing a community for data-informed decision making that scans the operating environment to seize opportunities – these are just some facets of this rare opportunity.

To succeed, you will need proven experience in leading teams on institutional-wide processes that have had a strategic influence and impact on a university or universities. You will also need the specialist knowledge it takes to lead the successful, on-time and on-quality delivery of statutory returns as well as supporting activities that include topics like training, culture and reporting. The confidence to build and lead a new Statutory Returns team while working across a new directorate to create synergies with various service areas, academic units and professional services is important too. What’s more, in keeping with our progressive culture, you will need to be an innovator and strategic thinker who can overcome challenges with new ideas. In summary, you are driven to affect change and progress and have a track record of success that spans a variety of university service areas.

Joining the Strategic Development and Delivery directorate means you’ll have access to a wealth of training, opportunities and exciting networking events. We’re committed to investing in our people. These include attending conferences and webinars; watching videos and receiving newsletters; and accessing tools, guidance and templates.

So, if you have what we are looking for and are keen to take on a new challenge, apply today.
