About the opportunity
The University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH), Rural Clinical School- Northern Rivers, University of Sydney provides a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in education of students for clinical practice in rural health. We also conduct research relevant to the priorities and needs of rural communities, with a focus on Aboriginal health research, climate change and health impacts, education research and health services research.
The UCRH aims to be an outstanding provider of inter-professional health education, providing:
- authentic and supportive clinical experiences to students (including allied health, medical, nursing, oral health and dentistry) through exposure to diverse learning opportunities in rural communities; and
- an excellent education program that complements those of our partner universities
The UCRH continues to grow and develop and we are now seeking to appoint an Academic Lead and Associate Professor of Allied Health to strengthen the leadership in our allied health program. This is an opportunity to work with Professor Vicki Flood and the team at UCRH and provide strong clinical academic leadership and mentoring to further the academic aims of the program and the careers of our valued team and students.
The UCRH has a footprint in the Northern Rivers, NSW, north to the Mullumbimby region, south to Grafton, west to Bonalbo and east to Ballina/ Byron, and works closely with multiple partners to support education, research and workforce development in Northern NSW.
The Lismore campus is located within walking distance of the Lismore Base Hospital and, along with our other numerous community and health partners, provides opportunities to support education and research activity in the region. Presence on campus at Lismore is important to this role and there are many vibrant towns in this region offering relocation possibilities and opportunity to be part of this wonderful community.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- contribute to leadership in education and research activities of the UCRH, with a focus on the allied health program, leading a team of clinical educators
- lead activities in allied health research which enhance the reputation of the Rural Clinical School/ School/ Faculty/University, such as leading participation in competitively funded research projects, including co-designed research projects
- mentor and provide opportunities for other academics to develop skills and engage in translational research and education, with a focus on clinical education and related education and research activities
- coordinate and develop curricula and programs within the School/Faculty (eg. coordination of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs) which enhance the University's standing as a national leader in education
- coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education (eg. demonstrated improvements in student outcomes)
- demonstrate impact through improving student outcomes, experiences and learning
- contribute to partnership development of UCRH, fostering partnership engagement with internal and external partners
- make an outstanding contribution to governance and collegial life within the University (eg. by chairing School or Faculty committees, undertaking significant administrative positions or participating in University-level committees)
- foster a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
- contribute expertise and knowledge to forums of public debate, where appropriate and consistent with University policy
- develop and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with industry, government and community organisations, with evidence of research impact
- PhD or Doctorate in a relevant academic field
- qualifications in an allied health discipline and eligible for professional accreditation in the relevant discipline
- national or international reputation in their discipline or area of expertise, with a supporting research profile including competitive research grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community
- sustained record of excellence in teaching and learning design and practice, as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation
- wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, school, faculty and University
- experience in people leadership within the higher education sector, including demonstrated success in supervising and/or mentoring others towards success
- understanding of and ability to lead and support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
- an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector
