The Ries lab is developing super-resolution microscopy methods for structural cell biology. We are looking for an experienced postdoc with a background in biology.

Your personal sphere of play:
We are looking for an applicant with an excellent scientific track record and excellent communication skills who is excited about understanding endocytosis and other cellular protein machineries with cutting-edge super-resolution microscopy.
The applicant should hold a PhD degree in biology or a related discipline, has a background related to endocytosis and has excellent spoken and written English skills. Experience with fluorescence microscopy is useful.

The postdoc will lead an ambitious research project on gaining mechanistic understanding on clathrin-mediated endocytosis using our cutting-edge super-resolution microscopy technologies, support the group on biological projects and will be involved in teaching and supervision of students. This position is limited to 3 years and ideally suited as a preparation for an own academic career, but also offers the perspective of a permanent contract as a senior scientist in the Ries lab.

Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise your students.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality: 

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in biology or a related discipline 
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
  • Experience in research management and in leading project staff
  • Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
  • IT skills
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy is useful
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
