Your personal sphere of play:

The working group "Computer Science Education / Informatikdidaktik" lead by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Knobelsdorf at the research group EDEN pursues interdisciplinary research combining methods and theories from Education, Psychology and Social Sciences investigating open problems in teaching and learning of Computer Science in higher and secondary Education. Amongst multiple research engagements, one line of teaching activities within the group is specifically dedicated to pre-service teacher education (Lehramt Digitale Grundbildung und Informatik). We offer a diverse and challenging position adressing candidates who seek to pursue a doctorate in the research field of the group. The candidate will be involved in all activities of the group related to academic administration, teaching and research, as well as grant application processes. Therefore the position prepares for a potential career in academia, administration or business with contexts related to STEM, higher and secondary education.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Participation in research, teaching and administration
  • Participation in research projects/research studies
  • Participation in publications/academic articles/presentations
  • We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

This is part of your personality:

Candidates must have a university degree (Master´s degree or equiuvalent) by the expected start date. The degree should be related to the research field of the group, i.e., Computer Science or Informatics, Education (Bildungs-, Erziehungswissenschaft), Educational Psychology (pädagogische Psychologie), Social Sciences (Soziologie). Mostly we encourage in-service Computer Science/Informatics teachers in K-12/secondary schools (Informatik Lehrer*innen AHS, MS, BHS, Gymnasium, etc.) and graduates with a Master´s degree or equivalent in Computer Science Teacher Education (Absolvent*innen eines Lehramtstudiums im Unterrichtsfach Informatik) to apply. Candidates bring a strong interest and commitment to the research field of the group, especially Computer Science Education and Informatics Didactics, with the aim of getting their doctoral degree. We expect proficient speaking and writing English skills. For German non-native speakers, we expect German language skills or a strong commitment to adopt German within the first years. The position includes regular teaching duties in courses of the undergraduate and graduate study programs offered at the Computer Science Faculty, mostly in the Computer Science Teacher Education Programm (Bachelor/Master Lehramt Unterrichtsfach Digitale Grundbildung und Informatik).
