About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and established Professor with an international reputation for excellence and a strong academic track record in research and teaching in the broad area of social design and/or strategic design.
The design discipline was established more than 40 years ago and has a long and well-established reputation in leading design research. This is a unique opportunity to shape a growing discipline that combines social and strategic design, interaction design, and artificial intelligence, with critical perspectives on, and the application of design across technology, society, and innovation.
As a professor, you must be an exemplary and eminent academic leader who can play a pivotal role in shaping and driving our emerging research agenda, with a strong focus on early and mid-career researcher mentorship to support the next generation of design academics. The successful candidate must have demonstratable experience of securing funding for world-class research activity with translational outputs and a strong record of high-quality dissemination.
The post-holder will contribute to the future-focused development of our integrated teaching programs including Bachelor of Design (Interaction Design), Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Advanced Studies, Design Major, Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts, Master of Design (with specialisations in Design Innovation, and Strategic Design), and Higher Research Degrees. This role will also provide leadership in curriculum development and program design across the discipline to further enhance the University's standing as a national leader in education.
Professors are expected to play a strategic development and governance role in the discipline and the wider school, leading improvements and encouraging excellence. Importantly, we are seeking a professor who can foster a vibrant and engaged academic culture. Furthermore, this post-holder must make a demonstratable and progressive contribution to developing and nurturing local, national, and international global partnerships that reinforce the School's position as a disciplinary leader in social/strategic design.
About you (Skills, Capabilities and Experience)
- A PhD in a relevant field and strong professorial track record in a relevant disciplinary area.
- An international reputation as an authority in Social Design and/or Strategic, with a supporting research profile inclusive of competitive research grants, publications, and evidence of scholarly recognition within the broader research community.
- Demonstrated success in leading educational and pedagogical excellence, with excellent examples of curriculum development and program design, strong research-teaching integration, and evidence of student-experience focused innovation.
- Evidence of strong and impactful research translation that have real-world impact, for example policy developments, product/service implementation, social innovation.
- An established media profile and wide network of reputable and relevant relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the School, Faculty and University.
- Evidence of strong and successful strategic academic leadership and proven ability to sustain and grow research groups. This includes including early and mid-career mentoring and evidence of fostering of a vibrant and engaged academic culture.
Term and remuneration
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
