We are seeking a dynamic senior leader with strategic acumen, futures thinking and a passion for advancing healthcare to lead the creation and establishment of a new school in Clinical Medicine as the founding Dean and Head of School.

This is an excellent opportunity for a distinguished clinician and leader in Clinical Medicine to join the Faculty Executive Team in shaping the future of teaching, research and engagement in this exciting new discipline at QUT.

About the School of Clinical Medicine

The School of Clinical Medicine will sit within the Faculty of Health and presents the opportunity to influence the development of the future of healthcare, from training the next generation of health professionals to undertaking research into key areas in clinical medicine.

This inaugural position provides a unique opportunity to lead the development of new courses relevant to clinical medicine that will provide real-world clinical experience. The breadth of QUT’s strengths and distinct points of difference in approaches to healthcare, including innovative technologies and interprofessional approaches to pedagogy and training will enable the incumbent to lead the creation of a School of Clinical Medicine that truly caters for the healthcare workforce of the future.

What you need to succeed

Your expertise as an intellectually generous senior leader with a deep understanding of the strategic imperatives of a contemporary medical school, and a passion for innovative medical education will help advance QUT’s record of excellence in research, teaching and care.

Essential Criteria

  1. A medical qualification registerable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Eligible for a clinical role with one of the health services.
  3. A proven track record of highly developed leadership, as demonstrated by the ability to provide strategic focus and direction, fostering a culture of innovation and collaborative academic achievement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to identify and exploit new opportunities in education, research and the provision of services.
  5. Strategic perspective to ensure sustainability and future growth with a track record in obtaining external competitive research funding and/or innovative commercialisation avenues.
  6. A strong record in the advancement of medical and clinical education as well as curriculum development.
  7. Recognised clinical expertise in the field of Medicine or subspecialty with distinction at the national and international level.
  8. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive team culture and effectively interact with a range of staff in a complex operating environment.
  9. Proven success in promoting and fostering collaborative interdisciplinary endeavours and the ability to build partnerships with diverse stakeholders including clinicians, industry, academic peers, community, policy makers and government.

Desirable Criteria

  1. A record of experience in senior academic leadership and management at Hospital and/or University level.
  2. Demonstrated ability and experience with the implementation of change initiatives including cultural, organisation and work practice changes.
  3. A Research Doctorate.
  4. A sound understanding of the impact of changes in the higher education sector in Australia on the University
  5. Experience and proven success in the management of quality and safety, finances and human resources within a similar service.
