The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The School is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile. The University has been awarded Gold within the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The University is aiming to be the top modern University and the Institute will make a significant contribution towards achieving this aim.

As part of a national consortium of Higher Education providers, we have secured the tender to provide a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and Degree Holder Entry Programme for newly recruited Police Constables in Sussex Police, Hampshire Constabulary and Surrey Police.  The final assessment within the Degree Apprenticeship is the End Point Assessment - this requires the independent assessment of whether a student officer has met the skills, knowledge and behaviours contained within the relevant apprenticeship standard.  This is assessed in line with the End Point Assessment Plan for Police Constables.  In order to support the assessment of final year PCDA students across the Police Education Consortium we are looking to appoint a dedicated Independent Assessor.

All posts will be based at the University of Portsmouth with some travel to campus required.

As an equal opportunities’ employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.  We also welcome applicants who would be interested in undertaking this role as part of a job share and/or with flexible working arrangements appropriate to the work associated with this post.

This role requires engagement with police officers and staff. As such we will require the successful candidate to undertake the Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) process.
