Since 1845, Queen’s University staff, students and alumni have made a difference to societies locally, nationally, and internationally.  Today, we are one of the UK and Ireland’s leading universities and continue to shape and serve the world around us through our research and teaching.  88% of our staff are engaged in world-leading or internationally excellent research, with Queen’s ranked 198 in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Queen’s has always been a generator of knowledge.  We tackle the issues faced by individuals and societies at a local, regional, and global level and we are an engine of progress that is central to the socio-economic success of Northern Ireland.  When it comes to future graduate employment, Queen’s ranks 12th in the UK, and our contribution to the local and regional economy of Northern Ireland is currently estimated at over three billion pounds annually.

Queen’s University is seeking to appoint a Pro Vice-Chancellor, Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. The Pro Vice-Chancellor Medicine, Health and Life Sciences is responsible for all aspects of the Faculty’s strategy, operations and finances. This person is a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Management Board and reports directly to the Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Together with the portfolio PVCs and fellow Faculty PVCs, this individual will provide leadership, innovation and direction to deliver the Faculty’s contribution to Queen’s Strategy 2030 and beyond. This individual will lead on strategic partnerships with national and international departments, industry, and partners in the Department of Health and the NHS Trusts.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional individual who can bring strategic vision and leadership to the University community. Candidates for the post will be individuals with significant academic standing in a discipline relevant to the Faculty and a successful track record of leadership, planning and resource management. They will be committed to delivering high quality research and teaching and have insight into the creation and development of national and international partnerships in recruitment, teaching and research.

This is a significant moment in the history of our university, and an exciting time to join the Queen’s community.  We are seeking to appoint several leadership roles to ensure that Queen’s is ideally positioned to deliver on the aims and ambitions of Strategy 2030.  We have recently designed a new Executive Leadership team structure, to optimally align strategy oversight with operational delivery - making us more agile and better equipped to achieve our goals as we move forward.
