Opportunity

The Professor in International Relations will be expected to make significant contributions across all areas of research, teaching, academic leadership and professional development, and will have the opportunity to lead a dynamic group of young scholars with a lot of momentum. You will throw your energy into building the research profile of the discipline, strengthen student engagement, and enhance the quality and teaching profile in the Master of International Relations and the Undergraduate Program.

As a level E academic, you will make an outstanding contribution to the research, scholarship, teaching and administration activities within the School, Faculty and University. A principal duty of the successful appointee will be to enhance the profile of the Political Science Discipline nationally and internationally, in research and engagement.

Professors at the University have a unique opportunity to profess their discipline in the public arena and to ensure the community is well informed on key issues affecting it. The Professor of International Relations is expected to have strong community linkages, having communications through the press, support groups, peer meetings and interactions with industry and stakeholders.

About you

The Professor in International Relations will bring internationally recognised expertise, outstanding research and scholarship, demonstrated outstanding leadership capabilities, exceptional engagement and outreach skills. As a committed team player and mentor, you can demonstrate the ability to work independently, as well as collegially and collaboratively, including the mentoring of staff in the discipline and University.  

You will possess;

  • A completed PhD in International Relations, Political Science, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership, including the capacity for strategic planning that will advance the discipline
  • An internationally recognised publication record of distinction and innovation and recognised excellence in your research field
  • A demonstrated track record of success in gaining nationally and/or internationally competitive research grants
