Do you enjoy working as part of a team and where your contribution can make a difference to how we deliver a great service?

We are beginning a major project to update our print collections. We’re looking for people to work with data and to lead practical workflows. The project is expected to run until July 2024 (up to 36 hours per week) and fixed term for that period. The project will run with two teams combining to operate 7 days per week.

You will be part of our Collections Development team. As part of the team, you will apply our collections policy, interpret data and lead a team of project assistants to undertake practical project work. You’ll be expected to contribute to best practice principles on stock management processes and interact with colleagues in other teams.

About you

You will have great interpersonal and problem solving skills, use digital systems and be able to undertake manual handling of books and other library materials. You can expect to be in regular contact with a range of colleagues and working both as part of a wider team and independently. Effective communication and team management skills are essential, as is the ability to use your initiative,  work with accuracy and at a detailed level.

What we can offer you

Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to our competitive rates of pay. Our core benefits include pension scheme membership; a generous annual leave allowance (supplemented by University closure days and public holidays) and excellent family leave arrangements (including maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave). https://www.southampton.ac.uk/hr/services/benefits-explained/index.page

As a university, we aim to create an inclusive environment that attracts, supports and retains the best students and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences from across the world. We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work.

We want to build a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you are excited about this opportunity but don’t align perfectly with the person specification, we strongly encourage you to still apply or get in touch to discuss further.
