The Workforce Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW) Research Group in the School of Health Sciences is seeking a Research Fellow to work on an NIHR ARC KSS funded project to explore how the implementation of the Dementia Care Coordinator (DCC) service across Kent and Medway works, for whom and how. Working with Dr Ruth Abrams, this realist evaluation is designed to explore in what circumstances the DCC service does or doesn’t work. We will do this by: (1) scoping policies and interventions to support people with dementia and carers to map the DCC service in Kent and Medway and establish programme theories; (2) undertaking a qualitative survey of all 42 DCCs across Kent and Medway at baseline and at 18 months; (3) undertaking in-depth qualitative data collection and analysis with key stakeholders and people with dementia and carers; and (4) synthesising findings from a different work stream and providing a report to Kent and Medway with recommendations on service design strategies.
The researcher will be responsible for undertaking the realist evaluation with support from Dr Ruth Abrams. This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral health services researcher or social scientist with realist experience (or a willingness to learn), and preferably with a knowledge of new role implementation and teamwork within NHS settings.
We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with strong qualitative research skills and excellent project management. Knowledge of realist evaluations would also be ideal. They will also need to be able to engage in deep critical thinking to develop theoretical insights, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently but also create and nurture a remote team culture. The successful candidate will be individually responsible for undertaking the data extraction and synthesis and supporting the write up of the final report and the production of various dissemination materials with support from other members of the team.
This is a fixed-term post up to October 2024. It is a part time position at 0.6FTE (60%). However there is flexibility to consider a shorter contract duration alongside an increased FTE.
