The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, at De Montfort University (DMU) are looking to appoint a new Associate Dean (Research and Innovation).

Faculty / Directorate

The faculty is home to a diverse range of courses across three specialist schools, the School of Computer Science and Informatics, School of Engineering and Sustainable Development, and the Leicester Media School. Our courses are taught by experienced academics in professional facilities using cutting-edge technology equipping students with the skills and specialist knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Teaching reflects the latest developments in the sector and many courses have professional accreditations. A range of work experience and volunteering opportunities enables students to develop the skills sought by graduate employers. Recent graduates have secured roles with leading employers such as AstraZeneca, Ministry of Defence and the NHS.

Role

In your new role as Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), you will work closely with the Faculty Dean to provide faculty-wide strategic management and leadership in relation to research. You will be responsible for developing a culture of research excellence and in taking the lead role in driving the submission for the Research Excellence Framework. You will manage faculty research budgets and take the lead on ensuring faculty-wide development of appropriate research and commercial income, through clear communication.

The salary for this role is £65,000 to £75,000. We welcome applications from aspiring Professors. Should an appointable candidate have conferment of a Personal Chair (Professor) we would consider a salary range above the advertised range.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful as Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), you will have achieved a PhD or demonstrate equivalent research experience, with a strong personal research profile you will have demonstratable experience of generating external income. You will be an effective communicator with proven leadership skills and high personal impact with the ability to represent DMU at the appropriate level.

You must demonstrate your leadership and academic management skills with a sophisticated approach to cross-disciplinary, impactful research. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure in a highly complex and rapidly changing environment will be essential.
