An outstanding opportunity presents itself to join the University on this path as the next Head of Melbourne Medical School. The School, located within the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences, is the oldest medical school in Australia and internationally renowned for global leadership in teaching and training, health research, policy and practice. The School encompasses all major fields of medicine and rural health, with more than 1,000 academic and professional staff members across 13 Departments and seven clinical schools embedded within hospitals. The School is committed to improving community wellbeing through the discovery and application of new knowledge and has research collaborations across the 47 partner organisations in the vibrant Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, as well as nationally and internationally. The School’s flagship Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree was the first Masters level entry-to-practice qualification of its kind developed in Australia, and a program re-design launched in 2022 has created more responsive, modular, technology-enhanced learning for state-of-the-art curriculum delivery.

The new Head of Melbourne Medical School will be a talented person who shares the ambition of our large and diverse Faculty to look beyond what we are good at, to what we are good for. The Head will provide the strategic leadership, the business acumen and management skills to ensure that the School continues to engage in world leading research partnerships and sets the benchmark in medical education. Joining a Faculty Executive that is committed to the principles of enterprise leadership, the role calls for an ethical and insightful leader capable of aligning diverse teams including academic, research, and clinical partners at local, national, and global levels to work collaboratively around a common sense of purpose. The leader will foster a values-based culture of innovation and creativity to achieve excellence in teaching and research outcomes and foster an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated.
