The Surrey Space Centre (SSC) is seeking to recruit a fulltime researcher for 10 months. The Surrey Space Centre, part of the School of Computer Science and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, is a world-class institution for space research. The investigation of novel electric propulsion concepts is subject of ongoing research within the SSC Space Propulsion group.

The successful candidate will be conducting hands-on laboratory investigations on an innovative plasma-based electrothermal thruster for spacecraft applications. The project is supported by the UK Space Agency.

This post ideally requires somebody with a degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, and a PhD (or, alternatively, proven experience) in Electric Propulsion and/or experimental plasmas. The candidate should have a good working knowledge of plasma sources and plasma diagnostics. In addition, the candidate should have experience with creating experimental setups and experimental testing.

The candidate can be also involved in other space engineering projects and activities in other research areas of the Surrey Space Centre with the potential of a longer research contract (to be confirmed based on the candidate’s background and aims).
