About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH), the largest division of the university, is dedicated to attracting and developing the brightest minds in health education and research to make and shape the future of health. Schools include Health Sciences, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Sciences and Public Health. We have close to 13,000 students, and our teaching and research activities are supported by over 2,200 academic and professional staff and over 3,800 affiliated academics. The Sydney School of Health Sciences is the largest in FMH, and we aim to graduate outstanding health professionals who will be innovative leaders, bringing the creative and collaborative change needed to improve health outcomes for all. Accredited professional entry-level courses include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, medical imaging sciences, exercise physiology and sports sciences. Our strategic direction is to build on existing success as a national and international leader in health science education and research to transform health systems and services with solution focused, evidence-based approaches to improve health and quality of life.

We are currently seeking to appoint an outstanding senior academic as Associate Professor or Professor of Allied Health, in partnership with the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD).The position is a component of a strategic partnership between the School of Health Sciences, FMH and NSLHD, with the objective of enhancing the research capability among allied health clinical researchers and fostering the connection between the institutions to support research and education and other activities, such as student placements. The partnership is committed to enhancing the health of people in the Northern Sydney area through patient-centred care that is grounded in scientific evidence, sharing knowledge and skills, and preparing work-ready allied health professionals. This position will focus on contributing to the evidence base about effective community-based and/or clinical-based allied health services. The position will also work closely with the District Director Allied Health and NSLHD allied health staff to build research capability and lead and integrate research between FMH and NSLHD, and foster the development of a collegial relationship between the institutions, to support allied health more broadly. This position is located specifically at both the Camperdown Campus and in health facilities of Northern Sydney Local Health District.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

The successful candidate will be a leading authority within their area of expertise and have an international reputation for excellence. You will be expected to maintain your reputation by actively contributing to research and scholarship, academic debate, policy development and innovation within the University and the broader community.

The successful candidate will hold PhD qualifications in a relevant academic field and possess an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector. You will have demonstrated success in leading an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment. With a distinguished record of scholarly teaching excellence (as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation), the successful candidate will also have an international reputation as an authority in their discipline or area of expertise, with a supporting research profile that includes competitive research grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community. Your experience in people leadership and management within the higher education sector will serve to demonstrate an ability to supervise and/or mentor others to success.

The successful candidate must have established relationships with key academic, industry and/or professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the school, faculty and University.

Term and remuneration

The successful applicant will be offered a full-time fixed term position, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees.

Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will also be provided if required.

The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
