About the Role 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Product Design has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Professor or Professor to join the team. 

We are seeking a candidate who can work at the nexus of fundamental engineering concepts and modern approaches and applications, combining deep domain knowledge and technical expertise. You will have an interest and knowledge in complex engineering systems incorporating areas such as advanced computation and data-driven methods, digital engineering, machine learning/AI with applications in fields such as, but not limited to, automation, Industry 4.0 and renewable energy. 

In this role you will contribute to the Department’s delivery of high-quality personalised education and advance its strong research culture that includes international collaboration, competitive grants and high-quality publications. You will also make a strong contribution to the mentoring of early career researchers and in attracting and supervising relevant higher degree candidates.

As an Associate Professor/Professor, you will be required to provide strong leadership in research, teaching and other appropriate professional activities within the School of Engineering and to be involved in direction of research and/or educational programs.  You will be performing teaching responsibilities including course and unit management, preparing and delivering lectures and assessing students in the relevant discipline whilst also participating in activities that foster and build on existing links with government, business, communities and professions in Australia and internationally.

About You  

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • Demonstrated strong academic and research leadership
  • Demonstrated expertise in the in one or more of the following or related fields: industrial automation, Industry 4.0, renewable energy or artificial intelligence in the context of engineering applications
  • Strong nationally and/or internationally recognised track record of research as evidenced by an extensive range of publications in quality journals 
  • A demonstrated record of initiating, securing and managing research grants and involvement in collaborations with other universities, industry, the profession and/or government
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative research outcomes among colleagues in a multi-disciplinary setting and an eagerness to liaise and work closely with industry and the profession.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake teaching, associated administrative duties, management and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • A track record of successful supervision of higher research degree candidates. 

Qualifications

  • An earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or in a relevant discipline or a related field (essential)
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (preferable)
