The Surrey Space Centre (SSC) at the University of Surrey is a world leading Centre of Excellence in Space Engineering, with a multidisciplinary competence that gives us a full end-to-end capability, unique in UK academia, to develop and execute space missions, from concept study to spacecraft design and Manufacturing Assembly Integration & Testing, to mission operations, which we run from our own ground station, and exploitation of space data. 

SSC are looking for a research assistant to work on semi-active control of micro-vibrations, carrying out a blend of theoretical and experimental research activities to develop a breadboard model for a bespoke isolation system. The ESA-funded project is led by SSC and is carried out together with 2 established industrial partners.

The candidate is expected to have good knowledge of magnetic devices, structural analysis and testing procedures, as well as proficiency in engineering software like NASTRAN, COMSOL, Matlab/Simulink and Solidworks.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£34,314) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£35,308).
