The Communication Theory and Technologies (CT&T) Research Group in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Engineer to support experimental research activites in the area of optical wireless communications.

The main responsibilities of the Research Engineer include i) Hardware development of optical wireless testbeds and communication system prototyping involving optics, electronics, software, firmware, and mechanical sub-assemblies, ii) Hardware design support (e.g., electro-optical system set-up, analog electronic design, etc) for experimental research activities of post-doctoral associates and graduate students, iii) Management of lab inventory, iv) Maintanence of the research group website.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have either i) MSc degree in electrical/electronics engineering, optics, photonics, physics or related field plus at least two years of experience in a similar laboratory setting, or ii) PhD degree with applied research experience in a similar laboratory setting
  • Experience in the development of optical systems with a solid understanding of lasers, LEDs, photodiodes, PMTs, SPDs and other optical components
  • Ability to use various electronic and optical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, optical powermeter, optical spectrum analyzer, beamshape analyzer
  • Experience with free space optics and visible light communication or fiber optic communication
  • Experience with SDR platforms (i.e., NI PXI, USRP, LimeSDR, etc.)
  • Familiarity with analog electronics
  • Strong verbal and written skills in English
  • Desire to work in a dynamic research-oriented academic environment

This position will begin on September 01, 2023, and renewable depending on performance. This position will be based at New York University in Abu Dhabi, and the candidate must be ready to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
