Job Description

The Social Inclusion Project (SIP) at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy specializes in independent, rigorous and impactful social policy research on Singapore and the region. It focuses on overlooked and emerging social challenges, and how public policies can create an open, diverse and inclusive society. Its activities aim to influence policy thinking, shape public conversations and promote opportunities for participation. Established in 2020, the SIP has been involved in studies such as Singapore’s first Nationwide Street Count of Homelessness and Minimum Income Standards.

The SIP is hiring a full-time Research Assistant/Associate to join a team that conducts innovative policy analysis and engages diverse audiences with a variety of research outputs. As part of a growing research unit, the Research Assistant/Associate will have opportunities to develop a new public engagement strategy to disseminate research through creative platforms and activities, and contribute to a distinctive and impactful research programme in a vibrant public policy school.

Position: Research Assistant/Associate
Commitment: Full-time, 24 months
Starting: July 2023

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage public engagement strategy
  • Produce creative and engaging content for public platforms (eg newsletter, website, social media, podcast)
  • Organise activities and events (virtual and in-person, eg seminars, conferences, workshops)
  • Engage the media (eg draft media replies, press statements, commentaries)
  • Manage external partnerships (eg NGOs, schools, academic institutions)
  • Participate in research (eg collect and analyse data, write and disseminate reports, manage schedules and budgets, supervise student assistants)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in the social sciences
  • Experience in public communications; fluent and confident communicator.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Research experience, such as in literature review, fieldwork, secondary data analysis and report writing.
  • Deep interest in social and policy issues, in Singapore and beyond.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
