About the Role

We are seeking a Deputy Director of Operations to join our Rural and Remote Health discipline and lead the provision of professional support services across South Australia and the Northern Territory. This new position will be accountable for providing direction for the geographically dispersed team delivering services such as Finance, Information Technology, Program Management and Facilities. Fostering and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders is a key aspect to the role, including staff, industry, government, and external organisations. The Deputy Director will work with budget holders to support their budget implementation and plan activities for Rural and Remote Health, as well as providing strategic advice relating to funding agreements and annual reports.

This position will include regular travel throughout the Flinders Rural and Remote Health Footprint; as well as some out-of-hours work where required.

About You

We are seeking a dedicated operations leader with a health, education, or public sector background. Highly skilled in the management of human, financial and physical resources, our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to set team direction, influence a positive organisation culture, and resolve problems using their independent judgement. The Deputy Director of Operations will reflect a strong commitment to the University’s principles of affirmative action for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; with a sound understanding of issues associated with education and health services in rural and remote environments. An effective communicator and collaborator, the Deputy Director will be able to influence, analyse, compile, and present data including funding submissions to a vast range of audiences.

Furthermore, our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant discipline and extensive relevant experience, and/or proven expertise.
  • Advanced analytical skills and financial management expertise (including the application of financial management systems, analysis and reporting of financial data).
  • An ability to provide management support, change management and quality improvement processes.
  • Extensive knowledge and/or understanding of the contemporary issues affecting the higher education sector, particularly health professional education, and health policies (desirable).

Prescribed Conditions for Employment

  • A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.

  • If located in South Australia: It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working With Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
  • If located in the Northern Territory: Northern Territory Government legislation (the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007) now requires all individuals in child related employment or whose duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child, to hold a valid 'Working with Children Clearance' (Ochre Card). This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.
