At the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Institute of Semiconductors and Microsystems, the Chair of Microsystems offers two positions as

Research Associate (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting at the earliest possible date. The positions are limited for 36 months. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The positions offer the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD/habilitation thesis).

Tasks: Within the framework of SSP 2206, we are looking for two research assistants for the development of a cooperative elastomeric multi-actuator platform for our project "CALMAR" in cooperation with the Chair of Mechatronic Systems at TU Berlin.

Your work will include the following tasks:

  • working out the basic definition of the system architecture based on basic units, such as dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), dielectric elastomer switches (DESs) and hydraulically amplified self-healing electrostatic actuators (HASELs), together with all researchers involved
  • carry out development work to improve the capabilities of DES and analyse fundamental problems related to the design, operation and environmental sensing of kinaesthetic DES-HASEL actuator units
  • investigate the passive mechanical behaviour of the designed cascadable elastomeric multi-actuator structures and the active system properties and transfer functions of simple active DES and HASEL skeletal systems
  • gain knowledge on multivariable control strategies for the cooperative elastomeric multi-actuator 
  • platform with self-sensing functionalities
  • design, realization, validation and demonstration of a cooperative multi-actuator platform.

Requirements: above-average university degree and, if applicable, PhD in the fields of electrical engineering, microsystems engineering, materials science or related fields; experience in at least three of the fields of microsystems engineering, microtechnologies and soft robotics is desirable; ability and willingness to work independently, goal-oriented; high level of commitment; confident knowledge of the English language.
