About the Team

The School of Science is a large and comprehensive school with learning, teaching and research excellence encompassing a wide range of biological, chemical, environmental, food, forensic, medical, nutritional and physical sciences, including agriculture and astronomy.

About the Role

The Associate Research Fellow in Agriculture & Plant Science will have responsibility for collecting and analysing data in a range of experiments conducted under field and controlled environments as well as in the laboratory. The position will also have responsibility for gene cloning and their characterisation in plants, cell lines and heterologous expression systems (e.g. Xenopus laevis oocytes, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Escherichia coli) and image analyses. Expected research outputs include well-documented methods, submission of research data to public repositories and peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.

The Associate Research Fellow will work closely with Dr Bose’s lab and will have opportunities to collaborate widely with academics both within and external to the School of Science and will provide advice to postgraduate students also working on the project. The Associate Research Fellow will also effectively build relationships and collaborations with other research groups in Australia and overseas and play key roles in biological discovery of significance and technology development at WSU. The Associate Research Fellow will communicate the results at scientific meetings and publish the research in high-impact international journals. The position will also contribute to the School of Science’s teaching efforts through lectures, practical classes and tutorials at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.

It is anticipated that the Associate Research Fellow will have a 70% research component. The remainder of their workload will involve contributing to the School teaching program including, but not limited to, the preparation and delivery of lectures & seminars, development of course material with, as appropriate, advice and support of more senior staff, marking and assessment, student consultation, and administrative duties associated with the role.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for a period of 3 years located at Western's Hawkesbury (Richmond) Campus.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $103,304 to $124,808 p.a. (comprising Salary of $87,293 to $105,464 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
