Job Description:
The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) together with The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS) provide and facilitate a vibrant and integrated research environment, conducting globally competitive and sustainable research that addresses major challenges and develops solutions to many of the global challenges that we face today. In the most recent Research Exercise Framework (REF2021) we are ranked No 1 in the UK for Agriculture, Food & Veterinary Sciences with 94% of research in these areas "world-leading" or "internationally excellent". The School holds Athena SWAN Gold status, which recognises significant and sustained achievement in gender equality across higher education and research and its ongoing dedication to representation, progress and success for all.
In line with our ambitious strategy, the School and Institute are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Biochemistry to further enhance our excellence, enterprise and reputation and to underpin our strategic commitment to interlinking teaching and research in the area of Biochemistry.
The successful candidate who will fit with the strategic vision of the School and Institute will be expected to establish and lead independent, competitively-funded research programmes in their field of expertise and contribute to teaching a variety of aspects of the curriculum. They will support the School and Institute in providing high-quality student support in line with our teaching and learning strategy, fully utilising digital innovative platforms.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
- Honours degree or equivalent in Biochemistry or an area relevant to the job purpose
- PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to the job purpose
- Completion of a PGCHET (or equivalent) or HEA membership
- Research experience and profile which complements the research priorities of the School and the Institute for Global Food Security
- Record of high-quality publications at an international level of excellence in internationally recognised journals
- Record of successfully obtaining significant research funding or other resources to underpin research, as appropriate to the discipline, through competitive national or international peer-reviewed processes as Principal Investigator
- Evidence of developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques
- Experience of presenting at national and international meetings and conferences
- Successful PhD supervision normally as Primary Supervisor
- Substantial teaching experience at University level
- Evidence of contribution to the successful delivery, enhancements or review of particular modules.
- Experience of delivering high quality teaching
- Evidence of using innovative teaching methods and digital platforms
- Evidence of academic leadership including managing professional teams, leading initiatives, chairing/participation in committees, contributing to strategy, participating and managing relevant aspects.
