Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow to work on investigating the anti-cancer effects of hemorphins. The project aims to demonstrate the anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic properties of hemorphins using various cancer cell lines and a variety of in vitro assays. Moreover, the successful candidate will be dissecting the molecular mechanisms as well as the key cell surface receptor and their signaling pathways involved in such anti-cancer effects. A strong experience in cell surface receptor pharmacology and signaling is a must. In addition, the Post-doctoral Fellow will contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students working on different parts and tasks related to the proposed research project.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Akli Ayoub in the Biology Department, College of Arts and Sciences at KU. The expected effective date is 01 September 2023.

Position Requirements

• Applicant must have a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and closely related disciplines.
• Strong background in cell and molecular biology at both theoretical and practical/experimental levels. Indeed, the candidate must be familiar with the following techniques and approaches: cell culture and transfection, cell fractionation, protein extraction, separation, and quantification, SDS-PAGE and western blot. In addition, a solid basis in luminescence and fluorescence and their applied techniques such as BRET (Bioluminescence Resonance Energy Transfer) is highly required.
• Experience in receptor pharmacology and signaling.
• Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager such as lab management, student supervision, and other service tasks in the department.

• PhD from a reputable university in cell and molecular biology or related discipline.
• Experience writing scientific or review papers;
• A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
• Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
• Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers
• Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills

Desired Criteria

• PhD gained from a top 200 QS or THE ranked University
• At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Post-doctoral researcher in academia or in industry.
• High impact first-author publications in top 10% journals in the relevant field
