Assistant Professor

Background

An Assistant Professor is developing his/her own research and teaching interests and is becoming known nationally for his/her work. They will effectively contribute to curriculum development, publish in peer-reviewed international journals or other appropriate outlets and are likely to have edited collections of work or meeting proceedings. They should be beginning to show academic leadership in their teaching and/or their research speciality and be involved in administrative duties at least at Department/School level.

Essential

  • PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering plus
  • Masters in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering plus
  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering 
  • Research active
  • Clear interest in learning and teaching and the potential to become an effective teacher

Desirable

  • Academic leadership
  • Administrative duties
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing publications in ranked journals

Associate Professor

Background

An Associate Professor will be well known in their field, they will have a national profile and will likely collaborate internationally. They are likely to have chaired sessions at international conferences and be invited to give talks at academic meetings in Fiji and overseas. They will have a significant research/scholarship record, some of which will be in high profile international journals, or other appropriate outlets, in their field. The Associate Professor will show significant academic leadership. They will link their research to their teaching and develop new papers and courses inspired by their research expertise. They must have clear evidence of good teaching performance.

  • PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering plus
  • Masters in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering plus
  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering with specialization either in Structural Engineering OR Highway Engineering OR Water Resource Engineering OR Hydraulics or Hydrology or Coastal Engineering 
  • Significant research/scholarship record some of which will be in high profile international journals
  • Clear evidence of good teaching performance, university service, community service and leadership
  • Track record of success in securing research funding from external sources

Desirable

  • Capacity to co-ordinate and/or lead other staff.

Salary:

  • Assistant Professor - FJ 59,789 plus 7% superannuation.
  • Associate Professor - FJ 99,272 plus 7% superannuation.
