Introduction

Winchester School of Art is proud to be one of the UK’s leading art Schools and part of the world-renowned University of Southampton, a founder member of the Russel Group of research-intensive universities. Our research-intensive environment and international student body provide a rich ground for interdisciplinary thinking and making at the nexus of art, science, technology, and culture.

Department of Fashion & Textiles

The Department of Fashion & Textiles is the school’s largest department, offering design, leadership & strategy, and marketing education, at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The department supports one of the largest international student communities in Europe studying fashion leadership, management, and strategy programmes, whilst sustaining a long-held reputation for the nurturing of high-level design practice and craft-based skills.

About the role

This role focuses on maintaining our growing national and international reputation in Fashion Design, Professional Fashion Practices and Fashion Design and Sustainability.  The role will focus on high quality education delivery that complement the school and university’s broader education and research strategy.

About You

You will be a talented fashion academic and practitioner with experience of teaching at across levels, as well being able to develop a variety of engaging teaching approaches to deliver an excellent level of fashion education.  You will have strong academic and industry experience in womenswear or menswear and passionate about research and concepts that are inclusive and considerate of environment, society, and wearer. You will have the knowledge, practical skills and experience of 2D design development through to 3D product, pattern cutting and manufacturing using traditional and/or digital methods. We are seeking a talented individual who is passionate about expanding our students’ knowledge, skills and awareness of contemporary critical issues to inform and enable a responsible approach to fashion.

What we can offer you

Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to our competitive rates of pay. Our core benefits include pension scheme membership; a generous annual leave allowance (supplemented by University closure days and public holidays) and excellent family leave arrangements (including maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave).

We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+; and people with disabilities. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates from working class, first generation Higher Education, the Global South and other underrepresented groups
