Job Description
The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applicants for one-year Research Assistant in Remote Sensing GIS, and data processing that begins immediately. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The successful candidate will collaborate with the PI and the Co-PIs to implement different tasks of a research project. The goal of the project is to examine the impact of urbanization in flooding risk. The tasks include data compilation, data pre-processing and processing, data analysis, GIS geodatabase development. They include preparation of reports and manuscripts. The work procedures include collecting and analyzing of data using surveys, and interviews; categorizing and establishing relationships among a variety of indicators using SPSS; and mapping data onto high resolution multispectral images using remote sensing and GIS.
Minimum Qualification
B.S. or M.A. or M. Sc. in Geographic Information Science or relevant qualification, statistics background; working knowledge of SPSS; willingness to adapt to continuous changes associated with research demands.
Preferred Qualification
M.A. or M.Sc. in Geographic Information Science (remote sensing and GIS); proficiency in statistics; willingness to adapt to continuous changes associated with research demands. Applicant must be able to function effectively in English, both written and spoken.
Expected Skills/Rank/Experience
Experience with processing, registration, and analysis of remote sensing data using software tools such as ENVI and ArcGIS. Experience with collecting field data. Experience in statistical analysis in particular time series analysis. Proficient in programming with R and\or Python and\or Matlab. Coursework in higher-level math, geology, ecology/environmental science, remote sensing, and GIS. Excellent written/oral communication skills.
