Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The School of Chemical Sciences seeks to appoint up to three new continuing academic faculty members at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level (depending on the appointee’s experience). Candidates in all fields of the chemical sciences will be considered on their merits, with the primary criteria for selection being potential for academic excellence, contribution to the school’s community and the teaching programme of the school. Preference will be given to candidates that complement the current research of the School of Chemical Sciences and have a clear vision of how their research plan will be implemented in a New Zealand context.

This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent position. The appointees may be asked to contribute to our offshore teaching commitments, which can include travel to other countries, as part of the role.

Our ideal candidate will be selected using the following criteria. Can you show that, relative to your career stage and opportunities:

  • you are, or have the potential to become, a world-class researcher in your respective field in chemical sciences, with strong, independent research programs funded by external grants.
  • you are, or have potential to become, a teacher that reflects the latest advances in general chemistry and your field, with a clear commitment to teaching excellence.
  • you are interested and are, or have the potential to be, active in dimensions beyond research and teaching; for example, mentoring and advising students and colleagues, public outreach, engaging with industry, science communication. 
  • you are collaborative and collegial, willing to support the successful operation of the school, and will be accessible to colleagues, research students and undergraduate students; and
  • you have a high-level understanding of and commitment to the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in a university context.

Our ideal applicant will have a conferred PhD in Chemistry or related discipline.
